Hand Painted Needlepoint Cat Portrait

Sometimes we get requests for hand painted needlepoint canvases, and other times, we’re asked to design canvases that really need a painter’s skill set.

Being in the Denver area, we are fortunate to have a local canvas painter that loves to paint animals!  This cat was done for a customer who does not have any single good photo.  I spoke with the customer and mentioned that I know a painter who would love to work on this project and interpret all the photos into one design and they agreed.

And I’m glad they did!  They are loving this custom needlepoint project!

Large Needlepoint Kits

This week we got to make a number of large needlepoint canvases!

We had a 21 x 12.5 inch, 16 x 16, a 16 x 15, and a 18 x 13 along with 10, 14, and 18 mesh orders, it made for quite a colorful day on the work table!

While these are large, we can actually make needlepoint kits that are up to 38 x 48 inches!

Needlepoint Leopard Canvas

Recently we made this leopard needlepoint canvas on 12 mesh.

The original animal needlepoint design on Etsy was using 18 mesh, but this project is for a 15 x 15 inch pillow.  This is going to turn out stunning, I can’t wait to see the needlepoint kit when it is finished!

Vintage Christmas Needlepoint Kit

We have a lot of needlepoint kits on our Etsy needlepoint shop.  This canvas is one of my favorite needlepoint designs.  In this case the customer had us change the saying at the bottom from a name to read “Merry Christmas”.  The canvas came out so well, I just had to share it!  If you have any custom christmas needlepoint project ideas, let us know, and we’d be happy to desigin needlepoint canvases just for you.

Two New Needlepoint Belts

We worked on two more needlepoint belt projects, and they came out really well.  We’ve titled these Whisky and Gunpowder and Air School.  I can’t wait to see them finished!

This week NeedlePaint.com has launched a new needlepoint belt web page. Needlepoint belts have long been a favorite for men and women who love traditional style belts. NeedlePaint is taking this a step further by allowing stitchers to create their own custom style for their belts.

The new web page features exclusive designs that can incorporate space for a custom monogram. Customers can also request color changes and even design element changes.

Starting out with 3 new designs, there are many more in the works. The belt canvases are also available as needlepoint kits which come with matched DMC floss. The needlepoint canvases are typically designed on 18 mesh canvas.

If you have an idea for a belt, please contact NeedlePaint and they will be happy to help design your own custom needlepoint belt. Belt canvases start at $51.25 and all customers will be given a digital preview for approval before their canvases are made.

Great Needlepoint Picture Frames and Design Ideas

Often people ask what size their needlepoint canvas should be for their project.  We recommend sizes that are commonly available in stores as picture frames.  This project was one of them, and the customer created needlepoint designs to fit in 8 x 10 inch picture frames.

We shipped two custom needlepoint kits to her, and what I really love, is how she used a multiple image frame for the one with her boy  The second photo has less reflection and show her needlepoint much better.  Simple custom needlepoint designs look great!

In case you are wondering, the most common frame sizes are:

For Rectangles:  5 x 7, 6 x 8, 8 x 10, 8.5 x 11, 9 x 12, 11 x 14

For Squares:  8 x 8, 10 x 10, and 12 x 12

Beautifully Stitched Tiger Needlepoint Canvas

A while back, a customer contacted us about our tiger needlepoint canvas that we sell on etsy (look at our “animal” needlepoint section).  They loved the design, but prefer work on 12 mesh and wanted a much larger design to make a needlepoint pillow.

We ended up making a 15 inch wide by 11.25 inch high custom needlepoint canvas.  Since the customer prefers to stitch with wool, we included 1 skein of each color matched to the original photo, to help her purchase the correct colors from her local shop.

Horse Needlepoint Pillow Canvases

We were recently contacted by a horse lover to help her design needlepoint pillows for her house.

Well, she was actually only looking to buy one pillow, but she liked both designs so much, we ended up doing two needlepoint canvases!

We started with the words: “Horses are who we are not what we do”

That, and she was looking for a clean “Ralph Lauren” feeling design. Below are two options we emailed to her.

The customer loved the first option, but after seeing the prancing horse, she mentioned that she had been looking for a custom needlepoint canvas with a horse jumping over an oxer for years.   This project took a bit more effort, as first I had learn what an oxer was (the first try was not an option, as the form was bad, and the picture is actually a vertical single fence)

The second attempt took more skill in the digital design, using photoshop.  But, this one came out perfect.  The best part of the project is that I was watching the Olympics equestrian team jumping and knew exactly what they were talking about!  The horses are amazing!

The canvases came out so well, I wanted to be sure you got see them.  Also note, that we added an extra 3 stitches around the sides so when this gets turned into a pillow, the design will not be cropped.

Really Cute Dog Needlepoint Kit

We made a new needlepoint kit for a friend, and I just have to share it.

Our friend is a photographer and shared this picture of his dog, and look at how well the dog needlepoint canvas came out!
