Needlepoint Pillow Finishing Stockings and Key Fobs

If you’ve purchased needlepoint kits from NeedlePaint in the past, you may know that we offer many types of finishing services.  We have some very talented employees here, and I’d love to take a minute to show you what we can do!

Needlepoint Pillow Finishing – offering finishing on all sizes  (Prices Ranges from $100 – $150)

Once you are done with your needlepoint, we’d love to help.  We offer a solid back with a hidden zipper (or no zipper on 8 inches or smaller), and can do piping or no piping.  We include a removable pillow form on pillows that have a zipper.  For the backing and piping, we have 20 colors of velvet to choose from.

Needlepoint Stocking Finishing – (Ranges from $125 to $155)

We finish stockings with a velvet back, piping, and hanging loop.  Inside we put a white liner or coordination cotton liner.

A Very Needlepoint Christmas to All

Christmas and Hanukkah are almost here!  Our little workshop has shipped over a hundred belts this past week and almost as many needlepoint kits.  We hope they all arrive and bring smiles to families across the country.

We have a lot to be thankful for this year, and are looking forwards to 2017.  We’ll be offering some new services for our needlepointers and for our customers who are looking for fully stitched products.

Our first Big announcement for 2017 is that we’re now selling fully stitched custom needlepoint stocking!  We’ve sold some over the years, but finally have put a listing online in our Etsy shop.  Our designers are here to work with you, whether you’re trying to match an heirloom needlepoint stocking, or looking for an updated needlepoint design, needlepoint stockings truly are timeless.

And those of you who made it this far are in for a treat.  Lisa, in New York just finished her second project ever.  She stitched this amazing Clara Nutcracker Stocking!  It is the same design as above (we did customize the background a bit), but you can see her talent in selecting her own colors and especially choosing fun stitches and embellishments that add even more depth and texture to the stocking.  Nice work Lisa!

Last but not least, for the more experienced stitcher, you can Needlepoint your own Photo!  Most popular are dogs and cats.  We’ve also done hundreds of homes, landscapes, and art needlepoint projects.  These can be turned into a pillow or hung up on a wall.  We now offer Pillow Finishing and if you don’t needlepoint, even offer fully stitched custom needlepoint pillows.

***Custom needlepoint kits available with standard shipping until Dec. 12th.  Our order deadline for fully stitched products in 2016 was Nov. 1st.  But we do offer custom designed Gift Cards that show your design that is being stitched, so you would not be empty handed if you decide to give the gift of needlepoint but don’t have the time to stitch it yourself.

We’re closing our shop this year from Dec. 20th until Jan. 1st to spend time with our families.

The Needlepoint Stockings were Hung by the Chimney with Care

The Christmas season is long anticipated all year by adults and children alike for the celebratory feeling that is nearly magical. Friends and families around the world gather to celebrate and enjoy the festivities of the season. With so much going on at Christmas time, it can take a long time to find something new and special each year to commemorate the day. Hanging a stocking is a long standing tradition dating back to a legend from the days of Saint Nicholas. It was said that he left gold in the stockings of people in his town on Christmas Eve. While you’d have to be really good all year to get gold in your stocking from Santa, the decoration is still a favorite of families around the world.

Above, we can see our friend Mary Ann in Illinois created a beautiful and creative stocking showcasing Julia’s favorite movie characters, the cast of animated movie Shrek. This came out beautifully, and we’re sure Julia will enjoy her stocking for years to come!

The Nutcracker Suite Needlepoint Christmas Stockings

There is still time to needlepoint christmas stockings for this Christmas.  Tracy recently finished a series of stockings that will coordinate for the whole family!

The Nutcracker Suite Needlepoint Stockings feature the main characters from The Nutcracker and the Mouse King story written in 1816 by E.T.A. Hoffmann in which young Marie Stahlbaum’s (also know as Clara in modern versions) favorite Christmas toy, the Nutcracker, comes alive and, after defeating the evil Mouse King in battle, whisks her away to a magical kingdom populated by dolls.  You can read more here.

Merry Christmas, Isaac and Alex – Needlepoint Stockings!

The stocking are ready for Santa with time to spare. The finishing touches on Alex’s stocking were:

  • Silver buttons, blue eyes, and a read nose for the snowman
  • A red glass bead nose for Rodolf and bead eyes for all the reindeer
  • A blue glass bead eye for little penguin.

On Isaac’s stocking I added:

  • Glass bead eyes for the penguin
  • A mouth for the ginger bread man out red glass beads stung together
  • Glass bead eyes for Santa
  • Large red beads for the holly berries on the Santa’s airplane

Each needlpoint piece is with light-weight cotton cut on the bias and then the back of each is wool, also cut on the bias. Both are trimmed with gold braid.

Metallic Needlepoint Threads

Cape of MaltaAfter a visit to the Legion of Honor Museum in Paris, I got inspired to retry some metallic threads. What prompted was this magnificent cape. It doesn’t show well in this picture, but all of the designs are stitched with glistening metallic thread. If you click on the image, for a better view of the details.

Any way, I had some metallic DMC thread in the selection of threads that I had with me on my trip and decided that I should dress up the stockings a bit. I had used the thread before and found working with it difficult. It cracked easily and my needle slipped off easily.

Candy CanesFirst lesson: Use it sparingly. I liked what I got when I added it as an accent to the bow on the candy canes. The underlying yellow was done in a modified satin stitch and the gold thread was stitched over one out of three yellow satin stitches.

Second lesson: Be patient and take it slowly.

Third lesson: Avoid the continental stitch. It was the only alternative for the tops of the ornaments and shouldn’t have used it on the blue and white ornament.

I am still working on the stocking and am contemplating where to use more metallic threads and beads. Stocking should be finished for my next post.
