My new design was inspired by metallic threads and a shimmering gold fabric I saw at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.joann.com\/joann\/home\/home.jsp\" target=\"blank\">JoAnn\u2019s<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.needlepaint.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/finishedgeorgia.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-411 aligncenter\" title=\"FinishedGeorgia\" src=\"https:\/\/www.needlepaint.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/finishedgeorgia.jpg?w=225\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.needlepaint.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/finishedgeorgia.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.needlepaint.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/finishedgeorgia-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The <a title=\"needlepoint canvas\" href=\"https:\/\/www.needlepaint.com\" target=\"_blank\">needlepoint canvas<\/a> section is a \u00a02.5 x 10 inch band to done in a variety of stiches selected from one of my favorite reference books, <a href=\"http:\/\/books.simonandschuster.com\/NEEDLEPOINT-BOOK\/Jo-Ippolito-Christensen\/9780684832302\" target=\"blank\">Jo Ippolito Christensen\u2019s The Needlepoint Book<\/a>.<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.needlepaint.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/thestitches.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-410\" title=\"Thestitches\" src=\"https:\/\/www.needlepaint.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/thestitches.jpg?w=300\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"66\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.needlepaint.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/thestitches.jpg 334w, https:\/\/www.needlepaint.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/thestitches-300x66.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Red ornament \u2013 horizontal brick stitch<\/li>\n<li>Green ornament \u2013 diagonal plait stitch<\/li>\n<li>Yellow ornament \u2013 slanted Gobelin variation<\/li>\n<li>Light blue ornament \u2013 vertical beaty<\/li>\n<li>Pink ornament \u2013 Parisian stripe with 2 shades of pink<\/li>\n<li>Orange ornament \u2013 Byzantine stitch<\/li>\n<li>Dark blue ornament \u2013 pavilion diamonds<\/li>\n<li>Background \u2013 reversed mosaic<\/li>\n<li>Lettering and ornament tops \u2013 continental stitch<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The finished canvas is sewn onto a 6 x 11 inch piece of fabric. (Layout is shown below.) Trim the canvas, leaving a \u00bd inch edge and fold under as shown below. I got carried away with trim and used a 1\/8- inch gold ribbon. (Optionally the top can be finished with a narrow hem.) With right sides together sew the 6-inch edges of the ornament together along the end of the worked needlepoint.
